Hi everyone! Welcome to CHeMn-FUN. I am Charmaine Condappa and I am a science, technology, engineering and mathematics teacher working in a scenic First Nations community in North Canada. This website serves as an opportunity to share something that I know a lot about – interaction. Chemistry is all about interaction and the FUNction of this website is not just to present the FUNdamental principles of chemistry, but to describe and explain our world in a FUN way for many to understand.
MY STORY
I was born in the beautiful island of Jamaica where life seems to be so relaxed, it’s ‘no problem’. I am blessed with a very loving husband and a supportive son who is now in his third year at university. My hobbies include painting and I also do illustrations for story books as well as assist my husband and son in designing elegant gift pens.
I have over 25 years as a teacher serving in several positions ranging from Principal to classroom teacher. I humbly acknowledge that my dedication, leadership and mentoring in education have contributed to the success of many students becoming outstanding citizens and responsible family members in their own right.
WHY THIS WEBSITE
As an educator, I consider myself a lifelong learner and being in a First Nation community, I decided to focus my doctoral studies on First Nations, Metis and Inuit learners, models and methods of teaching. Out of a need to create better fundamental understanding of the nature of the world around us to my Indigenous learners I decided to teach Western Science and Indigenous Science in parallel. The results were astounding! My students became more engaged and more prepared to meet any challenges they may face in life and in their academic career. Creating CHeMn-FUN is a way of sharing these ideas with other students.
THE GOAL OF CHeMn-FUN
There are thousands of websites dedicated to the teaching of chemistry but mine is unique in that it is not just to promote science education, in particular chemistry to middle and high school learners. By creating this website, I will also apply the indigenous perspectives in describing and explaining our world and the invaluable lessons that we can learn from their holistic worldview.
I would like to thank Wealthy Affliate for the support that I received in making my dream of this website a reality.
All the best,

Hello Charmaine, this is a wonderful idea and a noble intention to widely share your knowledge. I went through all of your posts so far and I absolutely love your style!
Your passion for the topic shows clearly through all the content I read. Your explanations and your examples are absolutely captivating. I might have even loved chemistry at school had I had a read on topic like yours.
I think your website will be valuable not only to learners of all ages and from all walks of life, but to those who teach chemistry, as you certainly show a fabulous example of how to make learning stuff very-very interesting!
Looking forward to read more from you.
Thank you Minaher.

Hi Dr. Condappa,
I would very much like to speak with you and share how the Wawatay Program shares similar interests with your work. Specifically our collaboration with other researchers on the Indigenization of the Period Table, Indigenous Science in collaboration with western science and sustainability. We presently have 3 students in our program and we are now recruiting for our second orientation.
